Total retail spend in New Zealand for the 28 days ending 28 April 2015 is $2,635.6 million. This represents a decrease of -0.2% from the previous 28 days and an increase of +3.0% from the 28 days ending 28 April 2014.

There are two retailer categories to see a decrease in year-on-year spend, Fuel/Service Stations (-7.6%) and Books & Stationery Stores (-7.2%). Whilst the Recreation & Entertainment category sees the highest percentage increase against the same period (+12.4%).

The most significant increase, when compared to the previous 28 days, is seen in the Department Stores category (+11.1%). The largest decrease across all regions is in Books & Stationery Stores (-11.3%).

Total quarterly spend in New Zealand for the 91 days ending 28 April 2015 is $8,592.3 million. This is a decrease versus prior quarter (-6.1%), though an increase compared to the same quarter last year (+2.8%).

Travel & Accommodation and Health Goods & Services see positive growth versus the prior quarter +15.6% and +3.1% respectively. Cafes/Restaurants/Bars see marginal growth (0.6%) contributing a significant $1,081.3 million to the total quarterly spend. The largest decrease against the prior quarter is seen in Department Stores (-28.5%), however this category shows an increase versus the same quarter last year (+6.5%).

There are three retailer categories to see a decrease in quarterly spend versus same quarter 2014, Clothing & Footwear (-0.2%), Fuel/Service Stations (-8.9%) and Books & Stationery Stores (-5.6%)

The Supermarket/Food Retailers category continues to account for the largest slice of retail spend (34%) contributing $2,895.6 million to the total for this quarter. This represents a decrease of -3.9% versus prior quarter though an increase of +3.4% versus same quarter last year.

Total retail spend for April 2015 in New Zealand is up +3% year-on-year to $2,635.6 million. Recreation & Entertainment sees the highest increase in April 2015 against last year, with an increase of +12.4%

Total retail spend in New Zealand is down for the quarter versus prior quarter, with a decrease of -6.1%, finishing on $8,592.3 million. The highest negative compared to the prior quarter is Department Stores which sees a decrease of -28.5.

Online retail spend for New Zealand for April 2015 is $121.4 million compared to the $100.  3million spend from off shore merchants. This represents a decrease of -10.3% for New Zealand against March 2015 and -3.5% for off shore merchants.

 

Year-on-year shows an increase for both New Zealand and off shore merchants with +10.2% and +9.8% respectively. This is driven largely by a year-on-year increase in the Travel & Accommodation category, which accounts for $79.7 million (66%) of New Zealand and $47.3 million (47%) of off shore total spend.
